Abstract

Joint contact analysis of the musculoskeletal system is one of the important biomechanical research topics due to its significant clinical relevance. The articular cartilage and its mechanical behavior play a key role in the articular joint contact. Articular joint models considering the time-dependent viscoelastic properties of cartilage, and joint congruences were studied. Results of the maximum normal contact stresses and related contact region versus time for two-dimensional plane stress and three-dimensional axisymmetric cases are presented.
