The worldwide interest in solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs) has multiplied since the year of 2000; however, their development is facing various technical challenges in materials, design, manufacturing processes, and system integration. R&D of SOFCs has attracted much attention in China and Japan; national projects on SOFCs have been launched for years in both countries.
The 2007 China-Japan SOFC Workshop was held in Yixing, Jiangsu, China, from July 6–8, 2007. This workshop was sponsored by Asia Zirconium Limited and National Science Foundation of China, and organized by Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, China University of Mining and Technology (Beijing), and Institute of Process Engineering. The purpose of this workshop was to understand SOFC development status, identify existing technical issues, stimulate discussions among leading SOFC researchers from both countries, suggest future development directions, and promote bilateral collaborations.
57 participants from China (38), Japan (15), Singapore (1), the United States (1), Canada (1), and South Korea (1) attended this workshop. This proceeding contains 13 selected papers of 37 oral and poster papers presented in the workshop, covering component materials, cell and stack design, fabrication, and evaluation. It is believed that this proceeding will contribute significantly to the future development of SOFC technologies.
